At Home with Lerato: African Cookery Classes, London

AN IMMERSIVE AFRICAN COOKERY EXPERIENCE IN THE HEART OF LONDON

Cooking together is such a fun and enriching experience. These are not cookery classes in the traditional sense, but intimate gatherings in my home where recipes are stories, shared together. You will not just follow recipes, you will learn where they come from, the hands, homes, and histories that shaped them or what inspired me to create them.

Sharing recipes and traditions from my family, friends, from my cook book and travels is like sharing an inheritance with you. I open my kitchen in London to a small number of guests who want to experience travelling across Africa with me, one dish at a time.

These are also a perfect gift for a for family, friends and for brands and corporate teams.

Classes take place in my home in Zone 2 (close proximity to Kings Cross, Camden, Angel & Hampstead Heath), with only 4 spots available. Minimum 2 guests for private classes. Address is shared with confirmed guests.

Private classes for 10 or more take place in our cookery space in Knightsbridge or Old Street.

More about your host

Lerato is a leading voice in African cooking. Her bold recipes celebrate and inspire food lovers across the world to learn to cook the diverse flavours of the African continent. Praised by Nigella, Jamie Oliver, with recipes gracing the cover of your favourite magazines to cooking on TV and with Ainsley Harriott on television, be prepared to enjoy quite the exciting feast for all your senses.

She is a regular panellist on BBC Radio 4’s The Kitchen Cabinet, one of the most listened-to radio shows with over 2 million listeners enjoying the panel dissecting topical issues in food, kitchen conundrums and recipes.

She writes a newsletter called Cook with Lerato, and when she is not doing all of the above she is travelling across Africa, learning, sharing and hosting food lovers from across the world on her cookery retreats. After the success of her supper clubs, in 2017 Lerato launched the cookery school to bring African flavours into mainstream cooking. She went on to publish her award-winning debut cookbook AFRICANA, a modern classic for anyone who wants to learn about the length and breadth of African cooking with recipes from across the continent. Her recipes have been featured in some of the most-read magazines. Africana was recently included in the menu for Meta HQ and fed to over 6000 staff in London. "A wonderful Sunday afternoon well spent! The Food tasted divine and the preparation and cooking part was very enjoyable. I went alone and met some lovely people! I look forward to sharing the recipes with friends and family (who by the way are already lining up for me to make at home after seeing photos I shared). Would highly recommend it. Thank you again Lerato!"
