I’m Lerato Umah-Shaylor, an award-winning author, chef and broadcaster. For over two decades, I’ve explored and celebrated African culinary heritage, sharing flavours, stories, and techniques through cookbooks, TV appearances, cookery classes, and immersive retreats across Africa.

Now, I invite you to join me in London, where you’ll experience a curated journey through some of the city’s most vibrant African markets and restaurants. This isn’t just a tasting, it’s an immersive food adventure, designed for those who love food, travel and cultural discovery. Come hungry!

• Price: £150 per person
• Add-On: Signed AFRICANA cookbook for £30
• When: Tuesdays, Fridays & Saturdays; 1:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Brixton Village & Market

Our tour begins in vibrant Brixton, one of London’s most exciting hubs for African cuisine. Immerse yourself in its rich African and Caribbean food scene and explore the history and flavors that make it unique. You’ll sample dishes from across the continent, discover fresh produce, and learn what ingredients to look for in shops so you can recreate the flavors at home.

Borough Market

Next, we head to one of London’s most iconic food destinations, Borough Market. A part of London not typically associated with African food, but suprise suprise you will experience it here. Here, I’ll introduce you to one of my favourite spice merchants, featuring a wide variety of African and global spices. Many of these are ingredients I use in my cookbook and across African dishes, from Moroccan tagines to Ethiopian stews.

• Enjoy curated tastings from selected restaurants, including seasonal highlights like Akara London* from the team who created the Michelin starred Akoko
• Sample small bites and sharing plates that showcase authentic African flavors
• Explore spices, market culture, and culinary inspiration
